Day Game Openers

Within the Pick Up Artist community there are generally two kinds of day game openers: direct and indirect. Below I break them down and give examples.
Indirect Day Game Openers
An indirect opener conceals your interest early. You wait until the girl shows interest in you. These were the original openers used by guys like Mystery and Style back in the day. And yes, these include opinion openers.
How they work
The most natural way to use these is to make an off-hand comment about the environment as a way to engage the girl. You’re likely to look at something, maybe point, and simply spew your thoughts on it. (See the examples below.)
When you do this, use breaking rapport in a commanding tone. This mode should elicit a response from the girl, and from there you can transition from her response into a conversation. Another method, although a bit unnatural, is to use a traditional opinion opener. You can either ask a open-ended question about the environment or simply a classic opinion opener about male/female dynamics or popular culture.
Strengths
The beauty of indirect day game openers is that they are very under-the-radar. The risk of getting blown out is lower because they are not as risky. They don’t draw a crowd, but you still can flirt with the girl. She does not have to make a snap decision on whether or not she likes you. This allows you time to build up attraction and slowly prove yourself an attractive guy.
Weaknesses
The downside of these conversation starters is that they take time. You need situations where you know you have five minutes to get into an actual conversation. If the girl is trucking down the street it will be odd to ask her opinion of something and get her to stop and listen. You also don’t build a ton of attraction of the opener outside of the tonality and wit you use. They don’t show a lot of confidence (yet they don’t portray a lack of confidence).
Where to use them
- Coffee Shops and cafes
- Grocery stores
- Book stores
- Check-out lines
- Social Gatherings
- Food Courts and Restaurants
- On Public Transit, and while waiting for public transit
- Any Stationary Situation
Where not to use them
- Moving Sets, indoors or outdoors
Examples
To get talking as a beginner… In a grocery story, ask her advice about cooking something.
In any store, as she grabs something… “No, don’t take that one!… No, no, not that one!… You can’t, not that one…” You can’t be too playful with this one!
At a bus stop… “You know… these buses can just never, ever come on time… You see, I usually take the…” and go into a DHV story. Banter back and forth from there.
Check-out lines… Comment on the front page of the tabloids. And as a more advanced one…In a coffee shop: “Do you know where I can get a coffee around here?”
Remember this
The key to using situational opener is that you need to break the girl’s state. This means that you must get her attention more focused on you than whatever it is focused on in that moment. When that happens, she can follow your lead (conversationally) and start reacting more to you and start coming into your world. When this happens attraction gets built.
Direct Day Game Openers
Direct Openers lay it all on the line early. Immediately, you show interest in the girl and use your confidence and assertiveness to create attraction… or at least buy yourself a few more seconds of time to get into an attraction-building conversation.
Forerunners like Jeremy Soul have become quite popular over the last couple of years during the daytime and at night.
How they work
When you deliver a direct opener you must use the following sequence:
- Get her attention, usually by saying, “Excuse me” in a neutral to breaking tone.
- Give her a frame of reference. Tell her where you say her come from so you’re no just saying, “Excuse me, you’re hot.”
- Offer a sincere compliment.
You are hitting her with a rush of masculinity, so don’t be ashamed of what you are saying. You won’t succeed at every direct opener but you’ll succeed at none if you’re ashamed of your desires.
Strengths
The beauty of direct openers is that they are simple and to the point. Once you have the structure down there is little thought involved regarding what to say. It all comes down to how you say it and how you present yourself. If you use a direct daygame opener properly, you can build a force of attraction within the first 10 seconds of talking to the woman. They also are generally accepted way of stopping moving sets. You can also “stack” a transition on top of your opener so you have an easy and predictable guide into your conversation each time.
Weaknesses
If you are nervous during your opener, prepare for a lot of practice as you learn direct. These openers are all about subcommunication, so if the words don’t match the look in your eye, it doesn’t matter what you say. You also can’t go direct in every situation, so if you become reliant on these openers you may find yourself empty when you have to think of something to open with in an indirect situation. Where to use them
- Moving Sets
- Street Sets
- When opening a girl in a situation where you can exit quickly on failure. (Eg. coffee shop on your way out.)
Where not to use them
- Places where you’ll be with the girl an extended period of time (on public transit)
- Places where she may feel uncomfortable in the spotlight (line-ups)
- Social Gatherings
Examples
The classic direct opener… “Excuse me. I just saw you walking past, and I just had to say, you look gorgeous today.”
A softer approach for beginners… “Excuse me. I just saw you as you came out of that store, and I have to say your dress is adorable.”
Remember this
Direct day game openers are not a catch-all. They are not suited for every situation and if you use them at the wrong time you may actually push the girl away. Also, a lot of what makes a direct opener work is in its subcommunication, not in the words you choose. Worry more about emoting a feeling, embracing your masculinity and appearing as a man and less about the actual words you use.

So under situations for indirect openers, you have “Any stationary situation” and then under direct openers, you have “Street sets”. Which of these rules applies in the case where the girl is standing on the street/in front of a store/building, (almost) as if she were waiting for someone? That’s a stationary situation but also technically a street set. Would it be possible to go direct on those sets (say… if you were passing by)?
